More than meets the eye is an apt description of the fascinating instance in technical photography when, with the help of a technical eye, something ordinarily imperceptible to the human eye can be seen—and therefore perceived, taken to be real, and consequently believed. The vital question therefore, is who sees what, when, and with what. As both an analog or digital medium, what does photography see, what does it reveal that the human eye does not and simply cannot see? The age-old driving force behind the human gaze and an inquiring mind is the persistent and almost childlike curiosity to explore everything and render it visible, to illuminate every hidden corner, to capture it, and—no less importantly—to understand it through touch, too. This is analogous to microscopy on the micro scale or conversely on the macro scale, as can be seen in the open source images of stars captured by Thomas Ruff with professional telescopes, for example.
But, one may ask, what exactly is this instant, this snapshot in which an object—or more specifically a projectile—pierces an object, penetrates something or someone, destroying both the protective shell or skin and the thing itself, ultimately killing and murdering it. Martin Klimas’ photographs address a particularly extreme moment, an ultra-brief instant, a millisecond, quicker than the blink of an eye and thus completely invisible to the lethargic human eye. The shattering of the vase shows the transitory moment between before and after, one seven-thousandth of a second that depicts the exact transition between intact object and total destruction. For Klimas it is not at all about destroying or killing something, or triggering death with a symbolic shot, however. With the aid of photography, a shot in reality is equally a shot in the imaginary.
Indeed, Martin Klimas plays with conceptions of genre such as “still life” and its connotations of the vanitas style, as well as the term “snapshot,” which is associated with the medium of photography. It is precisely from this visualized contradiction that the pictures draw their magical allure.
High-speed photography is the magic formula that astounds us by allowing the infinitesimally minuscule moment in which a projectile penetrates an object to become visible in full size. Klimas’ work, however, is not just this ultra-slow high-speed photography, like those famous photographs of apples being shot by projectiles. Here, the lens of the camera is open, and Martin Klimas takes the photograph in the dark; the flash is triggered by the sound of the shot. The flash of light creates the visible picture—both real and imaginary—in this one seven-thousandth of a second.
The vase is pierced, and the projectile causes the water within it to spray outward like an explosion; for a millisecond the beautiful blooming flower remains in its upright position. The vanitas style and the old still life genre prevail and implode at the moment of the shot, the flash of light, and the brief exposure of the film for the photograph that will be developed. With his photographs Martin Klimas impressively visualizes photography’s mechanism of action, which is based on light and time, or, more precisely, the exposure time. The camera is simply too slow to take these pictures—the flash first generates the image of a reality that otherwise lies in complete darkness.
We recognize these kind of vases from our everyday life, and enjoy them and their flowers everywhere; they allow the extinguished life of a cut flower to last for a longer period of time due to the water reservoir in the vase, thus sharing it with us and enabling us to experience happiness in the form of natural splendor. A bullet from a weapon is a very specific object of power that can penetrate a body, as we know, but it generally has no positive connotations and is a great deal stranger and scarier to us than a flower, which is a symbol of joy, splendor, blossoming, and life.
In these very impressive photographs by Martin Klimas, our gaze, perception, and mood oscillate somewhere between the splendor of flowers and the slowly transient beauty of nature on the one hand and the bang, explosion, and sudden destruction on the other. The connotations of the colors, with red as blood and danger to the point of death, and green and blue as the intrinsic colors of nature—the sea and the earth—allude to further emotional levels of our cultural memory. However, it is the huge variety of flowers that gives Martin Klimas an infinite number of possible combinations of plants and vases. This explains his serial approach. The colors are used more aesthetically, in the sense of a meaningful connection between the vase and the flower, although the vases are finite and cannot be used again.
The flower, the vase, and the background are the clear parameters that Martin Klimas must decide with regard to the finished image: the shot harbors the moment of surprise, dissolving the static composition and granting the final image its expressive gesture. In the digital age, Martin Klimas’ images are completely analog. One shot, one picture.
His concept of capturing a moment by means of the relationship between time and light offers the medium of photography a brilliant and sovereign presence: we objectively and vividly witness an imperceptible moment of reality, an explosive process, which in its brutal dynamics is the invisible beauty of a frozen moment of reality not graspable with one’s own eyes. Something had to be sacrificed to achieve this, for a photograph is taken—with light, against decay, to last forever. Martin Klimas leaves us speechless with amazement and allows us to look into the artificial eye with a newfound respect for nature in all its fragility.
Wohin kein Auge reicht, oder more than meets the eye beschreibt den faszinierenden Moment der technischen Fotografie, wenn man mit dem menschlichen Auge über die Hilfe eines technischen Auges nicht Wahrnehmbares erkennt, somit wahrnimmt, für wahr nimmt, mithin glaubt. Wer sieht was wann und womit ist somit die entscheidende Frage! Was sieht die Fotografie, das Medium, analog oder digital, was macht sie offenbar, was das menschliche Auge nicht sieht, schlicht nicht sehen kann? Die uralte Motivation des menschlichen Blicks und Forschergeistes ist die permanente und fast kindliche Neugier, alles zu erforschen und sichtbar zu machen, jeden noch so verborgenen Winkel auszuleuchten, zu erfassen, und nicht weniger wichtig, zusammen mit der Haptik, zu begreifen. Das ist analog zur Mikroskopie im Mikrobereich oder umgekehrt im Makrobereich beispielsweise bei den mit professionellen Teleskopen aufgenommenen Sternenbildern als Open Source bei Thomas Ruff zu sehen.
Was genau jedoch ist jener Augenblick, so darf man hier fragen, dieser Aufnahmemoment, in dem ein Gegenstand, konkret ein Projektil einen Gegenstand durchschlägt, in ein Ding oder einen Körper eindringt, die schützende Hülle oder Haut und ihn zerstört, letztlich tötet, mordet. Es handelt sich bei den Aufnahmen von Martin Klimas im Besonderen um einen extremen Augenblick, einen ultrakurzen Moment, eine Millisekunde, schneller als ein Wimpernschlag und für das träge Menschenauge damit ganz und gar unsichtbar. Das Zerspringen der Vase zeigt den transitorischen Moment zwischen Vorher und Nachher, die 7000stel Sekunde, die genau den Übergang zwischen intaktem Objekt und völliger Zerstörung zeigt. Klimas geht es jedoch keinesfalls um das Zerstören, das Morden eines Dings, den Tod ausgelöst vermittels des symbolischen Schusses. Ein Schuss im Realen ist mit Hilfe der Fotografie ebenso ein Schuss im Imaginären.
Martin Klimas spielt vielmehr mit Gattungsbegrifflichkeiten wie dem „Stillleben“ und seinen Konnotationen der Vanitas, als auch mit dem Medium Fotografie zugehörigen Begriff des „Schnappschusses“. Gerade aus diesem visualisierten Widerspruch beziehen die Bilder ihren magischen Reiz.
Hochgeschwindigkeitsfotografie lautet das Zauberwort, welches uns erstaunt den klitzeklein winzigen Moment in voller Größe sichtbar werden lässt, indem ein Projektil einen Gegenstand durchschlägt. Bei Klimas ist es jedoch nicht eben jene ultralangsame Hochgeschwindigkeitsfotografie im Sinne der bekannten Projektil-durchschießt-Apfel- Fotos. Hier ist das Objektiv der Kamera offen, Martin Klimas schießt das Foto im Dunklen, der Blitz wird über das Geräusch des Schusses ausgelöst. Der Lichtblitz erschafft real wie imaginär das dann sichtbare Bild in eben dieser 7000/sek.
Die Vase wird durchschlagen, das Projektil bringt das Wasser darin wie bei einer Explosion zum Spritzen, und belässt für eine Millisekunde die wunderschön blühende Blume noch in ihrer aufrechten Position. Vanitas und das alte Genre der Stilleben leben hier weiter fort und fallen in sich zusammen, im Moment des Schusses, des Lichtblitzes und der kurzen Belichtung des Films für das letztlich zu entwickelnde Foto. Martin Klimas visualisiert mit seinen Fotos auf eindrückliche Weise die Wirkweise des Mediums Fotografie, welches sich aus „Licht“ und „Zeit“, eben der „Belichtungszeit“ gründet. Die Kamera ist schlicht zu langsam um diese Fotos zu machen, der „Blitz“ erst erzeugt das Bild einer sonst in völliger Dunkelheit liegenden Realität.
Wir kennen Vasen dieser Art aus dem Alltag, überall erfreuen sie und die Blumen darin auch uns, lassen das gelöschte Leben einer Schnittblume mittels des Wasserspeichers in der Vase für eine bestimmte Zeit länger leben, und mithin uns daran Teil haben und das Glück in Form natürlicher Pracht erleben. Das Geschoß aus einer Waffe, einem sehr speziellen Machtobjekt, welches einen Körper durchschlägt, kennen wir ebenfalls, aber es ist uns weitaus fremder, unheimlicher, und hat meist keinerlei positive Konnotation wie die Blume als Symbol der Freude, Pracht, Blüte und des Lebens.
Zwischen Blumenpracht und langsam vergänglicher Schönheit der Natur als auch dem Knall, der Explosion und plötzlichen Zerstörung pendelt somit Blick, Erkenntnis und Stimmung bei diesen sehr eindrucksvollen Aufnahmen von Martin Klimas. Die farblichen Konnotationen zwischen Rot als Blut und Gefahr bis zum Tod als auch das Grün oder Blau als Farben der, Natur, des Meeres oder der Erde schlechthin spielen auf weitere emotionale Ebenen unseres kulturellen Gedächtnisses an. Die riesige Vielfalt an Blumen aber ermöglichen Martin Klimas unbegrenzte Kombinationsmöglichkeiten von Pflanze und Vase. Das erklärt sein serielles Vorgehen. Die Farben werden eher ästhetisch, im Sinne einer sinnvollen Verbindung von Vase und Blume verwendet. Gleichwohl die Vasen endlich sind, nicht erneut einsatzbereit.
Blume, Vase und Hintergrund sind die eindeutigen Parameter, die Martin Klimas in Bezug auf das fertige Bild entscheidet, der Schuss birgt den Moment der Überraschung, löst die statische Komposition auf und verleiht dem finalen Bild seinen expressiven Gestus. Hier sind die Bilder von Martin Klimas in digitalen Zeiten ganz und gar analog. Ein Schuss, ein Bild.
Sein Konzept der Bannung eines Moments mittels der Zeit/Licht Beziehung bietet dem Medium Fotografie den brillant-souveränen Auftritt: objektiv anschaulich werden wir Zeuge eines nicht wahrnehmbaren Moments der Realität, eines explosiven Prozesses, der in seiner brutalen Dynamik die unsichtbare Schönheit eines mit den Augen nicht fassbaren, eingefrorenen Wirklichkeitsmomentes ist. Dafür musste etwas aufgegeben werden, denn ein Foto wird geschossen – mit Licht, gegen das Vergehen, für die Dauer. Martin Klimas lässt uns sprachlos staunen und mit neu gesehenem Respekt der fragilen Natur ins künstliche Auge schauen.
When Still Lifes Burst Apart Like Dreams

The florist’s bouquet is once again gaining in popularity as a token a guest offers his host, whether friend or relation. Very quickly a suitable vase is sought among the selection of colored or transparent, rotund or angular ones at hand. Suddenly the vase explodes. Is it a calculated shock or a plain and simple provocation when Martin Klimas blows our bourgeois conventions to pieces?
The main object in his pictures is an arrangement of flowers in a vase: tulips or carnations, orchids or amaryllis. These are placed squarely at the picture’s center against a neutral, mostly monochrome background; no other detail distracts the attention of the viewer. It all reminds us of classical studio and product photography, something Klimas is very well acquainted with. Then with a spring-powered firing device, the Düsseldorf photographer himself aims at the vase, which thus bursts into a thousand pieces. Klimas makes just one photo, set off by the noise the projectile makes on impact. In the next fraction of a second, the flowers – without the support of the vase – will be thrown sideways or tumble to the ground, but this is a sight the photographer spares us.
It is a simple test set-up that at first glance suits a physics laboratory more than it does a photo studio. But with the help of high-speed exposure, we can see things in a way that is not possible for the human eye alone. Even if we were capable of viewing the entire course of the destruction with our own eyes, we would not subsequently be able to break up the scene so as to register it. Here in the photograph, the visual experience is frozen into a single instant, an in-between state in which standstill and explosion exist dynamically alongside each other. The dualist fragmentation takes place horizontally, mostly in the bottom third of the picture: idyll above, catastrophe below. Occasionally the, in part, exotic form of the flower oddly paraphrases the way the vase destructs. The glass vases shatter into countless particles, while the ceramic or stoneware vases only separate into large shards; in any case the receptacle – directly after impact with the destructive projectile – appears to sink to its knees.
At the same time, with this series entitled “Temporary Sculptures”, the photographer only anticipates the fate that awaits all earthly things and will eventually befall them: destruction or decomposition. Klimas makes the vases explode – and does so for one single photo; it is, in fact, a seemingly absurd idea to take something intact and break it up into its components and document the decisive moment. Via the compression of the explosion in a visual fraction of a second, something new comes about (along with the questioning of idyllic illusion), which corresponds to the photographer’s intention: he releases the objects from their functional purpose and very precisely documents this turnabout. What emerges is a quite unique link between beauty and perishability, between the static and dynamic, between the successive and the simultaneous – and all within a single image.
Whichever. The aggressive gesture of conscious destruction is unsettling. However, Klimas succeeds in aestheticizing and re-evaluating this process so that the traditional, art-historical concepts of the still life, i.e., vanitas, is in fact expanded, if not to say exploded. He not only shatters vases, but also established topoi such as dreams. Klimas makes use of dematerialization as a prerequisite for the metamorphosis of the form. We could call him a sculptor with a camera who, in 5000th of a second, creates a new form out of an existing one.
It is quite unusual today that a photographer born in 1971 should choose to work on such a complex visual theme with analog image technology that forswears any subsequent digital manipulation. This also applies to Klima’s earlier projects when he quite simply let small ceramic figurines fall to the ground. In just this way, pink-robed ladies or Asian kung-fu martial artists disintegrated into fragments solely so that Klimas could visualize the moment of impact. Curiously enough, the fighters with their hand techniques seemed themselves to break into pieces. With these sculptures – more than with the bursting vases – the disintegration of the form, the insight into the material properties beyond its outer contours is made evident. Klimas, both playfully and complexly, describes the essence of the form as that of transience.
The systematics behind his very original as well as unique series of photos multiplies the basic pictorial concept. Klimas always parses the flower-vase-color combinations with the same frontal view and neutral lighting with no cast shadows. In several photos there is, at least at the center of the picture, a third level that subtly mediates between the opposing forces and visually prepares the way for the other area in question, such as a hairline fissure in the vase’s glass or ceramic exterior that announces its imminent functional extinction. Yet the particularity here is that this takes place not successively, but simultaneously. And the delicacy of the fissure intensifies the brutality of the destructive gesture.
A photo directly before the shot, i.e., of the flower still-life alone, would be photographically just as uninteresting as one that showed the aftermath of the final fragmentation, when flowers and vase shards have fallen to the ground. And within a sequence of the entire event – that is, inclusive of all the aesthetic, in-between stages – viewers would surely decide on the same shot that Klimas favors. However, the photographer does not choose from different variations of the nearly same situation, but accepts the single take as the final image only when the tension between the static and the dynamic is to him in sync. Chance, too, helps bring about the production of the photo.
The photographic strategy here was schooled along the lines of the experimental photographer, Harold Edgerton, and the amazing effect he achieved with stroboscopic bursts of light and high-speed camera shutters that, already in the 1930s, froze breakneck-speed actions onto a negative, such as that of a bullet in flight.
Beyond “Doc” Edgerton, Klimas also names Eadweard Muybridge as an important inspiration. By means of the test set-ups he designed in the 1870s, Muybridge was able to prove that horses lifted all four hooves in the air when galloping, a question hotly debated in artists’ circles at the time. At that time, it could neither be verified nor negated by the naked eye; thus photography came to be used as a technical expedient. Muybridge’ series of photos published in the 1880s under the title “Animal Locomotion” changed our idea and perception of the sequence of animal and human movement.
Also Naoya Hatakeyama – because of the formal as well as thematic parallels – should not go unmentioned here. For some years now, this photographer in his native Japan has ventured with his remote-controlled camera very close to quarry explosions and recorded the way stone chunks fly towards the camera and seemingly also towards the viewer. Via the choice of photographic technology in these exploding landscapes, the time depicted seems to come to a standstill in a way similar to Klimas’ radical and elemental still lifes.

Der Floristenstrauß erfreut sich noch immer großer Beliebtheit als Mitbringsel zur Einladung bei Freunden oder Verwandten. Schnell wird aus der zur Verfügung stehenden Auswahl an farbigen oder transparenten, bauchigen oder eckigen Vasen eine passende herausgesucht. Plötzlich explodiert die Vase. Ist es ein kalkulierter Schock oder eine schlichte Provokation, wenn Martin Klimas unsere bürgerlichen Konventionen in die Brüche gehen läßt?
Sein Hauptbildgegenstand sind in einer Vase arrangierten Schnittblumen, Tulpen oder Nelken, Orchideen oder Amaryllis; diese sind in der zentralen Bildachse vor einem neutralen, meist monochromen Hintergrund exponiert, kein weiteres Detail stört die Aufmerksamkeit des Betrachters. Das erinnert uns an die klassische Studio- und Produktphotographie, mit der sich Klimas bestens auskennt. Anschließend schießt der Düsseldorfer Photograph mit einem selbst entwickelten Hochdruckschussgeräts auf die Vase, die so in Tausend Stücke gesprengt wird. Klimas macht nur eine Aufnahme, die durch das Geräusch des Aufpralls des Projektils ausgelöst wird. Im nächsten Sekundenbruchteil werden die Blumen – ohne den Halt der Vase – zur Seite kippen oder ins Bodenlose stürzen; aber diesen Anblick erspart uns der Photograph.
Es ist eine einfache Versuchsanordnung, die auf den ersten Blick besser in ein Physiklabor passt als in ein Photostudio. Doch nur mit Hilfe einer extrem schnellen Belichtung können wir die Dinge so wahrnehmen, wie es mit dem menschlichen Auge allein nicht möglich ist. Selbst wenn wir den gesamten Ablauf der Destruktion mit eigenen Augen gesehen hätten, könnten wir die Szene anschließend nicht so separieren, dass wir uns an sie erinnern würden. Das visuelle Erleben ist hier in der Photographie als einzelner Moment, als Zwischenzustand eingefroren, in dem Stillstand und Explosion spannungsvoll nebeneinander existieren. Die dualistische Trennung erfolgt horizontal, meist im unteren Bilddrittel: oben Idylle, unten Katastrophe. Gelegentlich wird durch die teils exotische Blütenform die Art der Zerstörung der Vase sonderbar paraphrasiert. Die Glasvasen zerspringen in unzählige Kleinstteile, während sich bei den Keramik- oder Steingutvasen nur einige größere Scherben lösen und das Gefäß unmittelbar nach dem zerstörerischen Projektilaufprall nach unten abzusacken scheint.
Gleichzeitig nimmt der Photograph mit dieser Bildserie unter dem Titel „Temporary Sculptures“ nur etwas vorweg, was allen irdischen Dingen grundsätzlich droht und irgendwann auch widerfährt: sie werden zerstört oder zerfallen. Klimas lässt die Vasen explodieren – und zwar nur für ein einziges Bild; es ist eine auf den ersten Blick absurde Idee, etwas Intaktes in seine Einzelteile zu zerlegen und den entscheidenden Moment zu dokumentieren. Durch die Komprimierung der Explosion im bildhaften Sekundenbruchteil entsteht – neben der subtilen Hinterfragung des schönen Scheins – etwas Neues, was auch der Intention des Photographen entspricht: Er befreit die Dinge von ihrer Funktionalität und dokumentiert exakt den Wendepunkt. So entsteht eine geradezu einmalige Verbindung von Schönheit und Vergänglichkeit, von Statik und Bewegung, von Sukzessivem und Simultanem – und das innerhalb eines Bildes.
Gleichwohl, die aggressive Geste des bewussten Zerstörens verstört. Doch Klimas gelingt es, diesen Vorgang so zu ästhetisieren und umzuwerten, dass die traditionellen, kunsthistorischen Vorstellungen von Stilleben oder Vanitas tatsächlich erweitert, um nicht zu sagen: gesprengt werden. Er lässt so nicht nur Vasen, sondern auch feststehende Topoi wie Träume zerplatzen. Klimas nutzt die Entmaterialisierung als Voraussetzung für die Metamorphose der Form. Man könnte ihn einen Bildhauer mit der Kamera nennen, der mit Hilfe einer 5000stel Sekunde aus einer Bestehenden eine neue Form erschafft.
Es ist durchaus ungewöhnlich, dass heute ein 1971 geborener Photograph mit analoger Bildtechnik, ohne computergestützte Nachbearbeitung ein so komplexes Bildthema bearbeitet. Das gilt auch für Klimasfrühere, freie Projekte, als er kleinformatige, figurative Keramikskulpturen schlicht zu Boden fallen ließ. So zerfielen rosa gekleidete Damen oder asiatische Kung-Fu-Kämpfer in ihre Bestandteile, allein damit Klimas den Moment des Aufpralls visualisieren konnte. Die Handkantenkämpfer schienen sich kurioserweise selbst in Stücke zu schlagen. Bei den Skulpturen ist – mehr noch als bei den zerschossenen Vasen – die Auflösung der Form, der Einblick in die Materialbeschaffenheit jenseits der Kontur evident. Klimas beschreibt das Wesen der Form spielerisch wie komplex als Flüchtigkeit der Form. Die Systematik seiner originellen wie einzigartigen Aufnahmeserien multipliziert die zugrundeliegende Bildidee. Klimas dekliniert die Blumen-Vasen-Farb-Kombinationen im stets gleichen frontalen Blickwinkel mit neutraler Ausleuchtung ohne Schattenwurf intelligent durch. In einigen Bildern existiert überdies eine dritte Ebene, zumeist im Bildzentrum, die zwischen den Gegensätzen subtil vermittelt und den jeweils anderen Bereich visuell vorbereitet, etwa wenn feine Risse im Glas oder der Keramik der Vase deren bevorstehende Funktionsauslöschung bereits ankündigen. Doch das Besondere ist: Dies geschieht nicht nacheinander sondern gleichzeitig. Und die Zartheit dieser Risslinien radikalisiert die Brutalität der zerstörerischen Geste. Eine Aufnahme unmittelbar vor dem gezielten Schuss, also das bloße Blumenstilleben, wäre photographisch ebenso wenig interessant wie die Situation nach der kompletten Zerstörung, wenn Blumen und Vasenscherben bereits am Boden liegen. Und innerhalb einer Sequenz des gesamten Ablaufes, also inklusive aller ästhetischen Zwischenzustände, würden wir uns in der Betrachtung sicherlich auch für die von Klimas favorisierten Aufnahmen entscheiden. Der Photograph selbst wählt allerdings nicht aus unterschiedlichen Varianten der annähernd gleichen Situation, sondern akzeptiert die einzig entstandene Aufnahme als Bild nur dann, wenn die Spannung zwischen Statik und Bewegung für ihn stimmt. Auch der Zufall ist bei der Bildentstehung mitunter behilflich. Die simple photographische Strategie mit der überraschenden Wirkung ist geschult an dem amerikanischen Experimentalphotographen Harald Edgerton, der mit Stroboskopblitzen und extrem schnellen Kameraverschluss bereits in den 1930er Jahren rasanteste Bewegungen auf dem photographischen Negativ einfror, etwa eine Pistolenkugel im Flug. Klimas nennt überdies auch Eadweard Muybridge als vorbildhaft. Durch die von ihm entworfenen physikalisch-photographischen Versuchsanordnungen konnte Muybrigde in den 1870er Jahren beweisen, dass Pferde während des Galopps alle vier Hufe in der Luft haben, eine damals in Künstlerkreisen heftig diskutierte Frage. Auch in jener Zeit ließ sich dies mit dem bloßen Auge weder verifizieren noch falsifizieren; so bediente man sich eines technischen Hilfsmittels, der Photographie. Muybridges in den 1880er Jahren veröffentlichte Photoreihen unter dem Titel „Animal Locomotion“ veränderten die Vorstellung und Wahrnehmung tierischer und menschlicher Bewegungsabläufe nachhaltig. Auch Naoya Hatakeyama soll – aufgrund formaler wie inhaltlicher Parallelen – hier nicht unerwähnt bleiben. Dieser wagt sich seit einigen Jahren in seiner japanischen Heimat mit einer ferngesteuerten Kamera sehr nah an Explosionen in Steinbrüchen heran und hält fest, wie Gesteinsbrocken auf die Kamera und somit vermeintlich auch auf den Betrachter zufliegen. In diesen explodierenden Landschaften scheint durch die gewählte photographische Technik die dargestellte Zeit ebenso zum Stillstand zu kommen wie in Klimas radikalen wie essentiellen Stilleben.
