waiting between cosmos and chaos ‒ Maya Shirakawa
-Maya Shirakawa’s comprehensive graphic works form the basis of her figurative and ornamental compositions, in which she creates an artistic language that opens up her own mysterious visual world to us though her variform characters. She cuts out some of these figures and arranges them in stage-like settings, which she then photographs and uses as the starting point for further image processing. Maya Shirakawa literally stages her analog graphic visual world on a three-dimensional stage and then proceeds to edit the photographic results further in the virtual dimension.
As a result, her pictures are complex constructions that draw on a wide variety of techniques and mediums, and which—in terms of both form and content—elevate their own diverse fictionality to an artistic principle.
